Wildwood Hopes to Unleash Dog Beach
A great day on this city’s beach may become even better for pooches and their people. Almost a year to the day that City Commissioners cut the ribbon opening Wildwood’s dog beach, on Wed., June 11 they introduced an amendment to an ordinance that will allow dogs to be unleashed while enjoying the sun.
?Our dog beach has become a hugely popular destination for dogs and their owners,? said Comm. Pete Byron, who was instrumental in bringing the dog beach to the city. ?After last year, the feedback we got was that people thought it would be wonderful if their dogs didn’t have to be on a leash, so we decided to take a look at that for this year.?
According to Byron, a designated, fenced-in area of the dog beach will offer dogs the chance to run free while soaking up the sun and playing on the sand. Leashes will continue to be mandatory for dogs wishing to enter the water.
?We hope to adopt this ordinance at our next meeting so we can have an area where mom and dad can bring Fido to the beach and let them run within the confines of the fence,? said Byron.
A second reading, public hearing and possible adoption of the ordinance change will take place Wed., June 24 at 3:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Room of Wildwood City Hall, 4400 New Jersey Ave.
